Description

The Security Awareness Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties is known in Brazil as the EBCP. This course is exclusively for Maritime Professionals, as opposed to its counterpart the CFPN which is for all seafarers. This course corresponds to the IMO Model Course 3.26.

Prior being assigned ship board duties, all seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships to which the ISPS Code applies should receive security related familiarization training. The familiarization training is performed by the Ship Security Officer or an equally qualified person and provides guidance for the seafarers so that they are at least able to:

  • Report a security incident;
  • Know which procedures to follow when they recognize a security threat; and
  • Take part in security-related emergency and contingency procedures.

These procedures should be included in the Ship Security Plan and may also be included as part of the shipboard familiarization checklist.

NOTE: The course lectures, handouts and workbook are all in Portuguese. The training provided is in accordance with international standards as required by the IMO in the STCW convention; however it is tailored to the requirements set out by the Brazilian Maritime Authority.

Target Audience

Seafarers, Officers and other certified crew members, except Deck Assistant Sailors and Machinery Assistant Sailors, to fulfil the provisions under Ship Security Plan or carry out tasks, at support level, related to ship security as required in Rule VI/6 of the STCW-78 Convention, as amended.

This course is specifically for Maritime Professionals working on board vessels. The Brazilian Maritime Authority offers two versions of this course based on whether the participant is qualified as a Maritime Professional, such as officer in the Navy or Merchant Marine, or not.
