Description

The Brazilian Ministry of Labour specifies that professionals that are required to work in heights above 2 meters must comply with regulation number 35 (NR-35) and complete the Working at Heights Training as outlined in the regulation. NR-35 addresses the safety and precautions involved with working in heights.

The NR-35 sets out the minimum requirements and the protection and safety measures for working at height. This includes the planning, organization and execution of any work done at heights, to ensure the safety and health of workers in the activities carried out over two meters in height, or any activity where there is risk of falling.

NOTE: The course lectures, handouts and workbook are all in Portuguese. The training provided is in accordance with international standards as required by the IMO in the STCW convention; however it is tailored to the requirements set out by the Brazilian Maritime Authority.

Target Audience

Workers in activities performed above two meters high, professionals requiring rope access, structure assemblers, civil and military firefighters performing work at heights. This course serves as initial or half-yearly training as or as required in certain cases. Offshore Companies and the International Maritime Organization also require that all workers who wish to work aboard ships and rigs obtain the Basic Safety Training (BST).

Objective

Enable professionals to identify, plan and authorize the release for entry in confined space in order to assess, monitor and control the risks in order to ensure the safety and health of people who take part directly and indirectly in this task.

Documents Required

• Upon registration the student must be over 18 years of age;
• Foreigners must present 02 (two) copies of their passport;
• Certificate of good physical health conditions within the validity 90 days;
• Photograph sized 3x4.

• Typical accidents in working at heights;
• Learning knots;
• Suspended material;
• Systems, equipment and collective protection procedures;
• Installation and shifting of life line;
• Commenting on fixing attachment points;
• Comments on use of scaffolding;
• Mooring systems;
• Usage of manoeuvring stick;
• Procedure in emergencies, rescue techniques and first aid notions;
• Completing the Risk Analysis and Special Work Permit;
• Completing the evaluation form;
• Seat belt use;
• Teamwork;
• Unsafe conditions;
• Displacement type stairs;
• Descent technique for ropes (rappelling);
• Climbing technique for ropes;
• Notions of self-rescue and simple victims rescue.

Certificate

At the end of training, SHELTER issue a certificate containing the employee’s name, curriculum, hours, date, location of the training, name and qualifications of instructors and signature of authorized person. This certificate is recognized by the Brazilian Authorities (Ministry of Labour) and has a validity of 2 years.
