Description
The VTS Supervisor Course covers the advanced training and is intended for operators who already have the VTS Operator (VTSO) certificate who have completed the V103/1. The course is generic, held in a classroom with simulators for support.
The final license to perform of the function of a VTS Supervisor also requires completion of the On The Job Training. If the student has not performed the On the Job Training as part of their operator training, they will be required to complete this training prior to working in the post with VTS. The On the Job training is linked to the port on which the VTS operation will take place, hence, in order to perform the job of a VTS Supervisor in another port, a new On the Job Training will be required.
This course will be of interest to staff who are responsible for supervising the VTS operations. Candidates who have a valid certificate of V-103/1 and comply with any additional requirements are eligible to upgrade their professional accreditation for V-103/2.
Currently, SHELTER is the only company accredited by both the Brazilian Maritime Authority and IALA to minister VTS courses in Brazil.
Target Audience
Participants must first complete the VTS operator course. Officers that want to work port side with the management of vessel traffic and control. Non-seafarers will be required to take a course with general nautical notions and GMDSS before enrolling.
Objective
At the completion of the course the student should have acquired the skill levels required, in accordance with the requirements established in IALA V103/2 and NORMAN 26/DHN, to perform the duties of Vessel Traffic Service Supervisor.

Documents Required
• Certificate of completion of the VTS operator course;
• High school complete or 2 years of uninterrupted service as a VTS Operator;
• Level 6 proficiency in English (IELTS) (Model Course V103/2, Part C, item 2);
• Certificate of good standard of physical and mental health (26 NORMAN/DHN, Annex E);
• Certificate of fitness to perform the function (NORMAN 26/DHN, Annex E).
Course Content
The full course consists of six modules, each of which works with a specific subject that is a requirement or function of the VTS Supervisor, followed by exercises designed to simulate possible events and incidents in a VTS centre.

Certificate
At the end of the course the student will receive the approved certificate awarded by SHELTER and endorsed by the Brazilian Maritime Authority with lifetime international validity while the VTS operator function is exercised, or five years in the event of inactivity.
