Description
The Brazilian Ministry of Labour specifies that professionals working with rigging and movement must comply with regulation number 11 (NR-11) and complete the Rigging Training – Cargo Handling Operations Training for Riggers – as outlined in the regulation. NR-11 concerns covers safety and precautions in cargo handling in the work environment.
Rigging is one of the most essential and recurrent activities in the oil and gas industry, for on board operations and for port operations. Thus, the Cargo Handling Operator, is a key member that maintains the operating and housing of the platform.
The function of the Rigger is to handle cargo handling and all the movement of materials and people between vessels, for loading and unloading from the platform or port. To perform this function the operator needs have knowledge of the equipment, facilities and security, preservation of the environment, as well as the occupational health and safety of workers involved.
Professionals working with Rigging may be responsible for one or more of the following: forklift, crane, platform lift and overhead crane. These professionals should be trained to evaluate operating conditions of the equipment, operate the instrument panel and prepare the area, so that the transport of persons and materials is done safely.
NOTE: The course lectures, handouts and workbook are all in Portuguese. The training provided is in accordance with international standards as required by the IMO in the STCW convention; however it is tailored to the requirements set out by the Brazilian Maritime Authority.
Target Audience
The Cargo Handling Course is intended for persons that work in oil and gas platforms or ports with cargo handling. Offshore Companies and the International Maritime Organization also require that all workers who wish to work aboard ships and rigs obtain the Basic Safety Training (BST).

Approval
The student must have:
• Minimum attendance of 90% of all classes;
• Satisfactory performance in practical classes;
• Grade equal to or greater than 6.0 (six) on a scale of 0 to 10 in theoretical evaluation.
Certificate
At the end of training, SHELTER issues a certificate with the student’s name, curriculum, hours, date, location, name and qualifications of instructors and signature of an authorized person. This certificate has no expiry date, but many companies may require recycling every 2 or 4 years.
