Description
The Company Security Officer (CSO) certification in Brazil is covered by the CPPM (Curso para Profissionais de Proteção Marítima) course. The CPPM certifies participants for the CSO and for the SSO (Ship Security Officer) duties. In order to obtain these certificates the participant must convert his certificate (issued by SHELTER and approved by the Port Authority) to either SSO or CSO
This model course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Company Security Officer (CSO), as defined in paragraph 2.1.7 (and paragraph 11) of the ISPS Code, Part A, and in particular the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a ship, for ensuring the development (or for developing) of a ship security assessment, for ensuring the development (or for developing), implementation, maintenance and updating of a ship security plan and for liaising with Ship Security Officers (Sops) and with Port Facility Security Officers (PFSOs).
This training corresponds to the IMO Model Course: Company Security Officer – IMO Model Course 3.20.
NOTE: The course lectures, handouts and workbook are all in Portuguese. The training provided is in accordance with international standards as required by the IMO in the STCW convention; however it is tailored to the requirements set out by the Brazilian Maritime Authority.

Seafarers who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Company Security Officer (CSO).

Objective
Enable the student to perform the duties of the Company Security Officer – CSO, Ship Security Officer – SSO or to work with Maritime Security, according to Notice/MSC 1154/2005 IMO; Rule VI/5 of the STCW-78 Convention, as amended; with Section A-VI/5 and Table A-VI/5 of the STCW-78 Code, as amended; and the International Ship Safety Code and Port Facility (ISPS Code).

• Foreigners must present 02 (two) copies of their passport;

Approval
The student must have:
• Minimum attendance of 90% of all classes;
• Satisfactory performance in practical classes;
• Grade equal to or greater than 6.0 (six) on a scale of 0 to 10 in theoretical evaluation.
Certificate
After finishing this course the approved student will receive a certificate awarded by SHELTER and endorsed by the Brazilian Maritime Authority with international validity of 5 years. The Company Security Officer (CSO) course is a standardized course by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) but is not part of the Maritime Professional Education, the PREPOM, or NORMAN-24. The certificate equivalence recognition can be done by the Conportos (National Commission for Public Safety in Ports, Terminals and Navigable Waterways).
