Description
The Brazilian Ministry of Labour specifies that professionals that are required to enter confined space as part of their job must comply with regulation number 33 (NR-33) and complete the Confined Space Training as outlined in the regulation. NR-33 addresses the safety and health issues involved with working in confined space.
A confined space is defined by NR-33 as an area or environment not designed for continuous human occupation, which has limited means of entry and exit, in which the existing ventilation is insufficient to remove contaminants or where there may be a deficiency or enrichment of oxygen. Examples of confined space are: gas, sewage and electricity.
To enter a confined space, the company must provide an authorization document called PET. This permission is required by law and is performed by the entry supervisor. The course is mandatory for employees, lookouts and supervisors working in confined space.
NOTE: The course lectures, handouts and workbook are all in Portuguese. The training provided is in accordance with international standards as required by the IMO in the STCW convention; however it is tailored to the requirements set out by the Brazilian Maritime Authority.
Target Audience
This course is for workers and lookouts who need to work in confined space. Offshore Companies and the International Maritime Organization also require that all workers who wish to work aboard ships and rigs obtain the Basic Safety Training (BST).
Because of the different specialists involved in work in confined space, SHELTER also conducts the Confined Space Training for the Supervisors (40 hours).
Objective
